On Saturday, March 1, Michel Daher Social Foundation hosted an engaging and thought-provoking panel discussion, bringing together industry experts and a passionate audience to explore the transformative role of technology in building a sustainable future for Lebanon’s agriculture and agri-food sectors.
A Collaborative & Insightful Discussion:
Led by four distinguished experts, the panel sparked lively exchanges, audience interactions, and deep dives into pressing industry challenges and opportunities.
🔹 Joseph Kahwaji (Agricultural Expert) highlighted the urgent challenges facing Lebanese farmers, from soil degradation and water scarcity to the need for sustainable practices. He emphasized the role of cooperatives and training programs in supporting farmers and reducing dependency on chemical fertilizers.
🔹 Mira Sidnawy (Agri-Food Expert) tackled food waste, compliance inefficiencies, food safety gaps and the important role of technology. She stressed the importance of efficient and smart monitoring systems, and regulatory enforcement to ensure sustainable food systems.
🔹 Bashir Chamoun (Technology Expert) shed light on the power of AI, IoT, and data analytics in modernizing agriculture. From smart irrigation and drone technology to predictive analytics for crop management and supply chain efficiency, he showcased real-world applications already making a difference.
🔹 Peter Gedeon (Cleantech Expert) brought a critical perspective on clean energy adoption in farming and food processing. He addressed the challenges of affordability and accessibility of renewable energy solutions, while also highlighting community-led solar and wind projects that can reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
